Insights: Oil Painting

After a long period of time being stagnant creatively, I decided to picked up my paintbrush and start working on an oil painting that I had sitting near my easel for quite a while.

Life has settled down a bit, and it seems like a really good time to pick up painting again just for fun.

I have been working on this particular painting for a very long time, but my personal goal is to get it done before the end of the year and get it framed and hung in my home.

As an graphic artist, I think it is important to dabble into other mediums, other than creating artwork on your computer.

I am very rusty so I have found myself recording and watching a lot of oil painting shows on PBS to gather some insight from the professionals.  I was hoping to register for a local painting class, but it appears that I will be too busy in the next couple of months.

So for now, I am content with moving my paintbrush around on my canvas in my free time to see where it all leads.

I have a lot of work to do still on my oil painting.  I need to rework the girls running on the beach.  I need to work on the waves and sand a bit more.

I will post updates on the painting progress, and I will definitely post the finished work once it is completed for your viewing pleasure.

I started oil painting in high school at a wonderful private art studio in Inglewood, CA under the direction of Mr. Gilbert.  Mr. Gilbert has long passed, but I remember him fondly to this day and every time I pick up a paintbrush it brings back great memories.

Painting again makes me wish that I was as talented as some of my fine artist friends that create such phenomenal work.  They truly inspire me with their artistic abilities, and I am in awe of their gifts. They color the world and make it a more beautiful place to live.

So my hats off to all those fine artists out there.  Maybe one day, I will get there!  Here is hoping!

Always,

Cheryl
